Wines of the Month

Port/Red Wine Champagne / White Wine

Some wines we have recently tried and can heartily recommend…

Niepoort Ruby Port
Another quality offering from Niepoort. Much more interesting than so many of the ruby Ports available. Rich and chocolatey, with a background of jammy fruit.
£9.00

The Mill Cowra Cabernet/Merlot 2002
This is a well structured wine, less ‘confected’ than a lot of Australian reds with the ripe plummy fruit balanced by firm tannins and juicy acidity.
£6.50
Clos dels Codols Montsant Terre de Codols 2001
A wine that we all take home on a regular basis. The Clos dels Codols is an 80/20 blend of old vine Garnacha and Cariñena that has been given 12 months in oak. This is a wonderfully rich, silky and seductive wine.
£8.25
Gallimard Père et Fils ‘Cuvée de Réserve’ Brut NV
We are delighted to endorse this as our new house fizz. Made from 100% Pinot Noir at Les Riceys in the southern Aube. A deliciously full and rich wine with an engaging aroma of summer fruits.
£17.50
Soave Classico Inama 2002
Most Soave is not noteworthy at all, but an increasing number of growers are attracting much attention. Of these, Stefano Inama is grabbing the limelight with wines of richness and complexity based on late harvesting, skin contact, the judicious use of oak and no filtration.
£9.00
Pouilly Fumé, 1er Milliseme, Domaine Renardiere 2002
This is the top cuvee from Domaine Renardiere. The grapes are sourced from vines on pure limestone (the famous silex soil), which gives great minerality and complexity to the wine. Renardiere's next door neighbour is Didier Dageneau who is probably rated as the top producer in the area (but whose wines are about four times more expensive than Renardiere !!)
£14.50

Chassagne-Montrachet 1’er Cru ‘Morgeots’ Clos Pitois Roger Belland 1999
Gosh this is good! Superstar in the ascendant, Roger Belland is justifiably proud of his Clos Pitois - a ‘monopole’ within the 1’er Cru of ‘les Morgeots’. This would give most Grand Crus more than a run for their money with its perfect balance of creamy, oak enhanced, profound Chardonnay fruit and steely acidity followed up with a sublime finish that goes on and on.
